Description
INDIA Vijayanagara (Empire of), Achyuta Deva Raya (1529–1542). Half-pagoda ND. Obverse: The Gandaberuda, a sort of pigeon or two-headed eagle, on the left, surrounded by four small elephants, two of which it holds in its talons and two in its beaks [symbolising the victory of justice over destructive forces]. Reverse: Three-line legend in Devanagari with a central cartouche reading ‘Sri Pratapa Chyutaraya’ [the Glorious Majesty Achyutaraya]. Mitchiner 673 – Fr.362; Gold – 1.7 g – 10 mm – 12 h NGC MS 64 (8772186-003). Close to mint condition, with a golden patina. Superb.
