Description
FRENCH INDOCHINA Provisional Government of the French Republic (1944–1946). 5-centime trial strike, 1946, Paris. Obverse: REPUBLIQUE – FRANÇAISE. Bust of the Republic facing forwards, head to the right, wearing a Phrygian cap and holding an upright branch; signed P. TURIN; with the date in the exergue. Reverse: INDOCHINA – FRENCH. A sheaf of ears of corn flanked by (denomination) – CENT and (various symbols); ‘ESSAI’ above CENT. Cat. No. 125; Aluminium – 18 mm – 12 h NGC MS 63 (4241190-009). On a burnished (PROOF) blank, struck in medal quality, with only 104 copies minted! NGC indicates MS on the coin itself, but the grading is listed as PF (PROOF) on its website! Only very fine hairlines on the obverse and a few fingerprints on the reverse. Rare (the first one we have sold).
