Description
ITALY Lombards, pseudo-imperial coinage (568–690). Tremissis, imitation of Heraclius for Ravenna, ND (620–670). Obv. D N HERACL - IVS P P AV III. Bust wearing a diadem, draped and clad in armour, facing right, with a loop-shaped fibula on the shoulder. Rev. (at 7 o’clock) VICTORIA AVIVSTORVI / CONOB. Long-armed cross. MEC.I.310 v. – BMC Vandals 35–38; Gold – 1.46 g – 15.5 mm – 6 o’clock With a handwritten label. Probably struck under Adowald, Arioald or Rothari. The inscriptions are still largely legible, but the bust is stylised. Graffiti on the obverse; a small chip on the rim at 10 o’clock on the reverse. Beautiful golden patina. Superb.
