ITALY Savoy (Duchy of), Victor Amadeus II (1675–1730). Medal commemorating the coronation of Victor Amadeus II as King of Sicily, Jerusalem and Cyprus, by Don Antonino Calcerano, 1714, Palermo. Obverse: * VICTORIVS AMEDEVS. D. G. SICILIÆ IERVSALEM ET CIPRI REX. Bust facing right wearing a large wig, draped and armoured, with the collar of the Order of the Annunciation. Below: .D. D. A. C. 1714. Reverse: *REGIO CAPITI A' - REGNI CAPITE*. The king, seated on a throne and facing left, beneath a canopy, holds a sceptre. He is crowned by the Genius of Palermo behind him and receives the keys, placed on a tray, from the hands of the Genius of Sicily. Below, the signature C. P. and in the exergue S. P. Q. P. numismatica-italiana.lamoneta.it W-ME51B/43-1 - UdS I-III-XXX-13 - Sicilian 84; Silver – 67.26 g – 55 mm – 6 h From the private collection of the House of Savoy and H.R.H. Princess Marie Gabrielle of Savoy, daughter of Humbert II. A strike mark between the hands on the reverse. Minimal marks on the fields and traces of previous cleaning, with a developing patina.
