Set of three medals in silver, bronze and pewter, Treaty of Rastatt signed between Prince Eugene of Savoy and the Duke of Villars, 1714, Nuremberg. Obverse: CONVENERE DVCES PRO PALMIS IVNGERE PALMAS. Prince Eugene of Savoy and Marshal de Villars, dressed in ancient style, shaking hands beneath palm trees. Rev. IVGENTVR IVPPITER ET SOL. Flat design featuring two fish. Below, VI. MARTII. / A: MDCCXIIII and in the exergue: PAX RASTADIEN- / SIS. Pax in Nummis 452 – Eugenius in nummis 185 – Montenuovo 1429 – Slg. Julius 1217–1218; Silver, bronze and tin (with copper pin) - 30.24 g, 26.56 g and 28.93 g - 44 mm - 12 h From the private collection of the House of Savoy and of HRH Princess Marie Gabrielle of Savoy, daughter of Humbert II. Unsigned. Minimal signs of handling on the silver specimen. A fine brown patina on the bronze specimen and a light patina with traces of varnish on the pewter specimen, which incorporates a copper nail. Superb. Unsigned but probably by Georg Wilhelm Vestner in Nuremberg, who produced several medals for the Treaty of Rastatt, signed on 6 March 1714 to bring an end to the War of the Spanish Succession. Drafted in French, the Treaty of Rastatt awarded Austria the Spanish territories of Naples and Milan, Sardinia and the Southern Netherlands.
