Hallmarks (hand-stamped) ‘ARGENT’ on the edge. Special strike. With a matt grey patina on the obverse; the reverse has a mirror finish with satin-finished reliefs. Superb, in mint condition.
Minted to mark the marriage of Marie-Clotilde of Savoy (1843–1911), eldest daughter of Victor Emmanuel II, King of Sardinia (1849–1861) and later King of Italy (1861–1878) and Marie-Adélaïde of Austria (1822–1855), and Jérôme Charles Joseph Paul Bonaparte, known as Prince Napoleon (1822–1891), also known as Plon-Plon
