MONACO - MONACO Louis I (1662–1701). 60-sol coin, 1682, Monaco. Obv. .LVD. I D. G. (variant). PRIN. MONOECI. Bust of the prince facing right, wearing a long wig, draped and armoured, adorned with a lace ruff. Rev. (sun) DVX. VALENT. PAR. FRANCIÆ. &c (date). The Grimaldi coat of arms surmounted by a ducal crown with the inscription DEO. IVVANTE. Gad.MC63 – Charlet 121 – Dav.4308; Silver – 27.06 g – 42 mm – 6 h Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! NGC XF 45 (5788892-004). Extremely rare; this is the only known date for this type. Of remarkable quality with a grey patina. TTB. Featuring the sun motif by the master Jean Stil. On the obverse, a shield adorned with a gauntlet, the finger raised, was possibly attributed to the engraver Joseph Roëttiers by Messrs Charlet in 1997.
