Description
ROMANIA Charles I, King (1881–1914). Plaque, Bucharest General Exhibition and Jubilee of the Reign, by L. Stelmans, 1906, Paris (Janvier and Duval). Obverse: REGELE VECHIAZA, ROMANIA INFLORESTE [The King watches over, Romania flourishes]. The King on horseback, followed by his army, during a vigil whilst work is being carried out in the fields. In the distance, the silhouette of a church and several village buildings can be seen; signed L. STELMANS GR. Reverse: The royal pavilion built for the 1906 jubilee, with the entrance gate in the form of a triumphal arch. Two medallions feature the busts of King Carol I and Emperor Trajan, surrounded by ears of wheat, vine shoots and other plants typical of the harvest. In the exergue, the inscription: 106 · 1866 · 1906. Forrer - ; Silver - 163.55 g - 69 x 85 mm - 12 h Hallmarks on the edge: a diamond-shaped mark (JD) for SILVER and an oval hallmark (male head facing left). With a grey patina. Superb.
