RUSSIA Nicholas I (1825–1855). 12-rouble platinum coin, 1842, СПБ, Saint Petersburg. Obverse: A crowned double-headed eagle with outspread wings. It holds a sceptre and an orb in its talons. On its bust, the coat of arms of the city of Moscow is surrounded by the collar of the Order of St Andrew. On the wings are the coats of arms of the kingdoms of Kazan, Poland, Astrakhan, Taurida, Siberia and the Grand Duchy of Finland. Reverse: * 9 ЗOЛ. 68 ДOЛ. ЧИСТОЙ УПАЛЬСКОЙ ПЛАТИНЫ. In the centre, *12* ПЮБЛИ НАСЕБРО (date) (mint). KM.C179 – Bitkin 51 – Fr.158; Platinum – 41.36 g – 35.4 mm – 12 o’clock Top Pop: this is the finest graded specimen! NGC MS 63 (8772183-003). Only 115 copies minted. Beautifully fresh with satin-finish relief on a mirror-like field. A scratch in the field at 1 o’clock on the obverse. Superb in mint condition.
