Description
SYRIA French Mandate (1920–1946). Set of three trial coins of 10, 25 and 50 piastres, 1929, Paris. Obverse: ‘STATE OF SYRIA’ within a cartouche. Above, an inscription in Arabic script and, in the centre, the denomination; on the right: ‘TRIAL’. Reverse: Floral design with dates within a cartouche. Cat. Nos. 29–31–38; Silver – 9.97 g, 5.03 g and 2.01 g – 17, 24 and 28 mm – 6 h In a burgundy imitation leather case, lined with burgundy velvet. The three proofs display identical, uneven patinas with iridescent highlights and minimal green oxidation spots.
