Description
USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA) - UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Federal Republic of the United States of America (1776–present). Saint-Gaudens $20 coin, with the 1921 date, Philadelphia.
Obverse: LIBERTY. Statue of Liberty facing forward, with the date at the bottom right and the signature ASG.
Reverse: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA/ TWENTY DOLLARS. An eagle flying to the left against a radiant sun, with the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST.
Fr.185 - KM.131; Gold - 34 mm - 6 h
PCGS MS63 (48282733).
This specimen has seen little circulation. There is a slight flattening on the eagle’s shoulder on the reverse and on the thigh on the obverse. Only minimal handling marks are present, and these are limited to the edge. It has a beautiful, slightly golden colour. Very rare. Superb, uncirculated.
Despite an initial mintage of 528,500, the 1921 Saint-Gaudens $20 coin is a major numismatic rarity. Its rarity stems from the fact that the majority of the issue was melted down, with approximately 150 examples surviving
