Description
Fatimid Caliphate – Al-Mu’izz ibn Badis (1016–1062) Dinar Inscription on the obverse and reverse Condition: B+ Material: Gold Weight: 3.81 grams This ruling emir of Ifriqiya serves as a reminder that Fatimid authority was at that time exercised partly through vassal dynasties, in this case the Zirids. Al-Mu’izz ibn Badis would eventually renounce his Shi’ite allegiance in 1048 to side with the Sunni Abbasid Caliph of Baghdad — a shift that precipitated the invasion by the Banu Hilal tribes and the fragmentation of the central Maghreb.
