Description
After Juste-Aurèle MEISSONNIER. A pair of candlesticks and their candlestick holders in chiselled and silver-plated bronze in the Rocaille style, featuring a motif of volutes and clasps. H: 24 cm. Characteristic of the Rocaille style, which borders on the Rococo, these candlesticks are inspired by the designs of Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier (1695–1750), a draughtsman, silversmith and ornamental artist, regarded by his contemporaries as one of the leading figures of the Rocaille style. He succeeded Jean II Bérain as architect and draughtsman to the King’s Chamber and Cabinet.
