Description
DELORME. EXCEPTIONAL LOUIS XVI SECRETARY in rosewood, amaranth and satinwood veneer, decorated with marquetry featuring cubes and quatrefoils within a cartouche. It is framed with bronze fittings. It opens via one counterweighted flap with a triple lock, surmounted by a drawer, and two wide doors. Both sections reveal an interior containing two drawers. The side panels are bevelled with simulated fluting. Elegant gilded bronze ornamentation featuring laurel garlands, ovals, fillets and rows of pearls. Top in Aleppo breccia marble with a recessed edge. Stamped. In very fine condition. 18th century. L 97, D 43, H 146. An identical marquetry design is reproduced on a chest of drawers photographed in the KJELBERG catalogue under the reference DELORME, page 246, featuring this typical cube-pattern marquetry and, in the centre, a medallion of four-leaf clovers.
