VAN FALENS, Carel. (Antwerp 1683–Paris 1733). (Attributed to). ‘Hunt for stags in a valley’. Large oil on canvas on its original canvas. Literature. VAN FALENS Carel was a Flemish master born in Antwerp who lived in France from the early years of the 18th century. After working at the court of Louis XIV and subsequently, in particular, for the Regent, he was appointed in 1724 as painter-in-waiting to King Louis XV and admitted two years later to the Royal Academy, where he established a solid reputation as a painter of hunts and battles. The painting is in excellent condition, on its original canvas which has not been re-stretched. (Some minor historical restoration work; cleaned, with some repainting removed, and re-varnished). Regency-style frame in wood and gilded stucco, in perfect condition. H.74 W.61.5; with frame H.97 W.83.
