Francisco España (Girona, 1793 – Barcelona, 1877) Violin. Dated 1846. Comes with a bow and a case. It still has the original label inside that reads, “Francisco España me hizo en Barcelona año 1846' (Francisco España made me in Barcelona in 1846'. Francisco España, was a prominent Catalan luthier based in Barcelona who, during the 19th century, made violins, violas, cellos, double basses, pianos, guitars and some wind instruments, all of them of high quality. The Museu de la Música de Barcelona houses several instruments made by him, including a guitar built in 1805 (inv. MDMB 577), a natural brass horn (MDMB 539), and a violin (MDMB 13181).
