Attributed to Sforza di Marcantonio (active in Italy, circa 1535–1581) Istoriato maiolica dish depicting the Presentation of David and Goliath. Pesaro. Dated 1576. The inscription 'David s'Armo Contra Golia gïgante, .1576. .S.' appears on the reverse. Diameter: 31,5 cm. The National Gallery houses a dish by the same artist depicting Hercules and Omphale (inv. 2015.19.4015), dated 1551. Provenance: - Collection of a hôtel particulier in Paris, belonging to a family of the French high aristocracy. A collection assembled between 1883 and 1976.. - By descent to the present owner.
