Ebonized wood frame with pyrographed bone inlays. Italy or Spain. 19th century. Decorative elements arranged in compartmentalized cartouches, depicting numerous instruments of the Passion (Arma Christi), including the ladder, the nails, the scourge, the crown of thorns, the rooster, the lantern, and Veronica’s veil, 42 x 31 cm. Inner dimensions: 23.3 x 14.5 cm. Provenance: Acquired by the previous owner from the collection of antique dealers Ron Hoffman and Tony Gampetro. New York. This lot has been imported, therefore its exportation permit from the Spanish Ministry of Culture is guaranteed and is exempt from spanish culture export duties.
