Oval gold pendant medallion with a double miniature on ivory, late 18th century; a memento mori featuring, on the obverse, a portrait of an officer in a blue uniform, painted in watercolour and gouache on ivory. Two-tone gold setting, chiselled and amati-worked with a decoration of scrollwork and foliage. On the reverse, a funerary monument with an urn set in a landscape, in grisaille and sepia on ivory, embellished with blue flowers; the lower section contains a plait of hair, surmounted by an openwork inscription reading ‘À toi souvent’, suspension loop, ET hallmark, h. 7.8 cm
