Oval box in gold and tortoiseshell with a pair of portraits, 18th-century France; the lid features two miniatures depicting a man in a ruff and a lady in a blue dress, both wearing wigs, edges, friezes and ornamentation in chiselled gold; hallmarks Paris 1775–1781; 6.5 x 9 cm (damaged and detached) The frame has come away entirely – the gold borders are detached The miniatures are still fixed to the lid along with their gold frieze.
