Acting as intermediaries between collectors, porcelain makers and bronze casters, they played a key role in the creation of these exceptional objects combining porcelain with gilded bronze mountings. Regarded as a precious material for its delicacy, whiteness and lustre, Chinese porcelain fascinated European connoisseurs. The Sèvres porcelain soon complemented this craze. Set in gilded bronze mounts of elegant and skilfully crafted forms, these porcelain pieces became true collector’s items, intended for the most prestigious interiors and bearing witness to the refined taste of the European aristocracy.
