Description
A Louis XVI-period urn clock with rotating dials, in gilded and patinated bronze; the urn is decorated with acanthus leaves, drapery and water leaves, flanked by three putti, resting on a fluted column decorated with drapery and a laurel frieze, octagonal base with ball feet, h. 55 cm Provenance: Schlote family, Göttingen, Lower Saxony; collection of Dr Karl Schlote, Eschwege, North Hesse, assembled mainly between 1950 and 1990, then passed down through the family; private collection, Switzerland, since 2010. all the screws at the rear wear, pitting and losses to the gilding dials, fluted column and urn pierced in several places replaced ball feet glued enamel discs elements added later hour hand obscured a gap between the urn lid and the minute dial: originally, the handles were screwed into a different position on the urn
