A Napoleon III-era mantelpiece ornament, in gilded and chiselled bronze, featuring a clock flanked by two cherubs, with an enamelled dial signed ‘Ernest Royer, Paris’, surrounded by a beaded frieze; candelabra decorated with a putto holding a cornucopia, ending in five light arms; bases adorned with fluting, laurel wreaths, flowers and acanthus leaves; dimensions of the clock: 44x41x19 cm; height of the candelabra: 65 cm
Provenance: Schlote family, Göttingen, Lower Saxony, collection of Dr Karl Schlote, Eschwege, North Hesse, assembled mainly between 1950 and 1990, then passed down through the family, private collection, Switzerland, since 2010.
