Small stains, without glass H. 22 cm – W. 48 cm (visible) Trained as an architect, Pierre Marie Arsène Lafargue (1852–1931) was based in Blois, where he enjoyed a distinguished career in the Loire Valley, playing a part in the restoration of numerous monuments and châteaux, including the Hôtel d’Alluye, the châteaux of Chenonceau, Valençais and Josselin. Alongside his work as an architect, he regularly exhibited drawings and watercolours at the Salon des Artistes Français, reflecting his attachment to the architectural heritage and landscapes of the Blois region. This interest in enhancing the region’s heritage is also evident in his short treatise *Ce qu’on aurait pu faire à Blois depuis cinquante ans* (1915), in which he reflects on the town’s development and beautification. However, beyond this eye for detail, which he inherited from his profession, he also painted landscapes, paying particular attention to light and the natural atmosphere. The lot is to be collected from the studio at 8 Rue Rossini, Paris 9th arrondissement, from 17 July 2026 at 3.00 pm.
