Painter of genre scenes, landscapes and still lifes, Jeanne-Marie Barbey was a pupil of Désiré-Lucas and Edouard Cuyer; she exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants between 1911 and 1939, and at the Salon des Tuileries in 1924–1925.
She painted scenes of provincial life, particularly in Brittany, such as *Le Pardon de Saint-Philibert*. Some of her landscapes reveal the influence of Cézanne in their precision.
