Born into a family of artists, Jean Veber trained in Paris under his father, the painter and lithographer Jean Veber. He began his career as a caricaturist and illustrator for the leading magazines of his time before establishing himself as one of the most original figures of the Belle Époque. His work, at the crossroads of Symbolism, satire and the fantastical, is characterised by a rich imagination and remarkably skilful draughtsmanship. He regularly exhibited at the Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, and his works are now held in several public collections, notably in the Department of Graphic Arts at the Louvre and at the Musée d’Orsay.
Lot to be collected from the studio at 8 rue Rossini, Paris 9th arrondissement, from 17 July 2026 at 3.00 pm.
