ROGER LERSY (1920–2004). Piano Lithograph Signed and dated lower left: R. LERCY / 58 Numbered lower right: 46 / 150 Height: 55 cm – Width: 44.5 cm (visible area) History: This lithograph illustrated Roger Lersy’s exhibition at the Galerie Fricker from 9 May to 7 June 1958, at 177 Boulevard Haussmann Roger Lersy was a painter, mosaicist, sculptor, interior designer and composer. He learnt to play the piano at a very young age and studied for three years at the School of Applied Arts. His work is characterised by the creation of stained-glass windows, sculptures and mosaics, whilst his musical output is devoted to chamber and orchestral music, as well as some film and stage scores. His pictorial art is closely linked to his musical works. Roger Lersy himself said: “For me, music is an extension of painting, which in turn becomes an extension of music.” His aesthetic is based on the notion of harmony between the arts in order to achieve the harmony of Art itself. This is illustrated in particular by the series of twenty-nine *Vitraux* for clarinet, saxophone, cello and percussion at the Church of Saint Laurent in Longlaville. He exhibited his paintings in various galleries in Paris and abroad between 1954 and 1988, and the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris holds several of his works.
