Born in 1940 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Claude Gaveau produced his first oil paintings during his teenage years. After studying for seven years at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he enrolled two years later at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris, where he studied for five years. There he studied oil painting, fresco, mural art and stained-glass art. In 1963, he won first prize and a scholarship from the Antwerp Academy and exhibited in 1965 at the Galerie Angle Aigu in Paris. He gained international recognition in 1968 after winning the Critics’ Prize. He is known for his compositions of nudes and still lifes.
