A leading contemporary Spanish artist often associated with Neo-Expressionism, Miquel Barceló quickly gained international recognition for his paintings, drawings and watercolours. He subsequently turned his hand to sculpture, ceramics and the creation of set designs and costumes for the theatre. As a testament to his success, he created the decorations for a chapel in Palma de Mallorca Cathedral in 2007 and for the dome of the UN Palace of Nations in Geneva in 2008.
