RAJABU CHIWAYA (1951–2004). Impala and exotic birds Canvas Signed at the bottom: Chiwaya Unframed Damage Height 60 cm – Width 49.5 cm Rajabu Chiwaya was born in Tanzania in 1951 and began his career as a painter in 1974. He worked within the Tinga Tinga Partnership Society, where he trained some of his children, a number of whom have followed in their father’s footsteps. Rajabu Chiwaya works primarily in oil and acrylic, layering motifs to create a sense of dynamism on the canvas. His work reflects his observation of and imagination regarding Tanzanian culture in the late 20th century. Some of his works have been exhibited at the Kendall Gallery.
