SMALL LOUIS XV-PERIOD ALCOVE CLOCK. In gilded bronze with rocaille decoration.
The movement is signed on the back: Gilbert/à Paris and numbered: No. 208
The front glass is missing; there are hairline cracks on the dial; signs of wear.
Height: 23 cm – Width: 15 cm
This is likely the work of the clockmaker Abraham Gilbert (died 1752), who was granted master status on 1 October 1725 and was listed as based at Place Dauphine in 1724. Gilbert is known to have used cases made by Latz and Saint-Germain.
