Description
Rare US Navy Morse lamp. In the shape of a rifle, with wooden stock for shoulder sighting, thick aluminium butt plate. Tube in 2 unscrewable parts, the rear part contains the mechanism and the bulb. The bottom near the stock is marked 9-S-4240-L. The front part of the tube has a ring which can be moved by a brass nipple to open or close a diaphragm, this mechanism is functional. Used for Morse signal communication between ships or by troops disembarking to a ship. Lamp operation not verified. Slight oxidation, wear. Uncommon II
