Description
FINISTERE (29) - LANDERNEAU - "Eglise de PENCRAN". 19th century. Original drawing (probably by Félix Benoist) in graphite, heightened with white gouache, on grey wove paper. PREPARATORY DRAWING for the lithograph entitled "Eglise de PENCRAN près de Landerneau (Finistère)", for the album "La Bretagne contemporaine", published in 1865 by Charpentier. Annotated at the foot in pencil "No costumes, scenes of Messrs and ladies visiting the place" & "effect and depth / remove the trees in the foreground from those in the background / take great care with the architecture and details of the bell tower, the 2 crosses". Provenance: Fonds of the Charpentier workshop run by Pierre-Henri (1788-1854) and his son Henri-Désiré (1806-1883), printers and publishers based in Paris, then in Nantes (from 1854). 30 x 22.5 cm. Condition A (well preserved).
