ISERE (38) - CORPS - "Sleep of the young shepherds a moment before the apparition of the Virgin of La Salette at MONT-SOUS-LES-BAISSES". 19th century. Original Sketch by Félix Benoist (1818-1896) in graphite and enhanced with white gouache, on wove paper. Annotated on verso "Approved" and an unidentified pencil signature. PREPARATORY DRAWING for the lithograph entitled "Sommeil des jeunes bergers un instant avant l'apparition / "Maximin and Mélanie, each leading a herd of cows, arrived at midday on 19 September 1846, on the plateau of La Salette, called Mont-sous-les-baisses, Overwhelmed by the excessive heat of the day, the young shepherds fell asleep after their meal, in the ravine of Sézia, where the Mother of God would soon appear to them."", for "l'album du Pélerin à N.D de la SALETTE" published in 1855 by Charpentier.
