Description
Charles MERYON (1821 - 1868) - "The Notre-Dame Gallery". 1853. Original etching. Ref: Delteil, n°26 (iii/v). Schneiderman, n°29 (iv/vi). Proof of the 4th state of 6, with the artist's name, address and date (before Meryon's monogram in the upper left corner), the upper border line reinforced, on Hudelist laid paper. Coated on the verso with the collector's marks of Dr. S. William Pelletier (Kankakee 1924 † Athens 2004), chemist, Athens (Georgia) (Lugt 4193) and Charles William Dowdeswell (London 1832-Surbiton 1915), picture dealer, dealer and publisher of modern prints, London (Lugt 690). A third black collector's mark on verso (BB), not described by Lugt. Margins. 28 x 17.5 cm in copper. 31.2 x 24.7 cm for the sheet. A condition (rare and slight traces of sunstain in the margins, good condition).
