ERNEST DARET known as MONSÙ ERNESTO (attr. to)
(active from 1694 to 1712)
View of village with figures
Oil on canvas, 125X94 cm
Provenance:
Milan, private collection
A painter of landscapes and genre scenes, the artist was known in ancient inventories as Monsù Ernesto and according to sources active in Padua, where he was influenced by Ghidoni and Eismann, with whom he may be confused. Characteristic of his art is the biting tenor of his draftsmanship, with white lead and bright colours, elongated figures and a singular blend of Nordic art and Venetian painting.
The work is accompanied by a critical file by Filippo Pedrocco.
