Trained with his father, a famous battler and chronicler of the Thirty Years' War, Rugendas the younger followed the workshop's directives, also specialising in this particular genre of painting. Countless drawings of him are preserved in the Augustus Museum, denoting the artist's attention to the study from life of horses and the human figure.
