Description
PAOLO PAOLETTI
(Padua, c. 1671 - Udine, 1735)
Still Life
Oil on canvas, 41X129.5 cm
Provenance:
Milan, private collection
The painting was traced back to Paolo Paoletti's catalogue by Alberto Cottino, while an initial critical analysis of it is due to Miotti (cf. T. Miotti, Le nature morte di Paolo Paoletti, Udine 1968, ad vocem). Historical information regarding his activity indicates that he arrived in Friuli at a very young age, but between 1708 and 1715 he appears in the Fraglia dei pittori di Venezia. Praised by Luigi Lanzi, who judged him to be 'especially distinguished in flowers: and with great truth he portrayed fruits, herbs, fish and caciaggioni', Paoletti marked the fortune of the collector's fortune of the naturamortistico genre in the region and his works bear witness to the Lombard influences of Margherita Caffi and Cassana, with peculiar Nordic hints.
The work is accompanied by a critical review by Alberto Cottino.
