Description
PIERRE RONCHE (attr. to)
(active in Rome in the second half of the 17th century)
Portrait of a Lady
Oil on canvas, 80X60.5 cm
The painting bears a collector's attribution to Pierre Ronche, who was of Flemish origin and was in Rome in 1673. Very few works are known to us and we mention, for example, the Portrait of the Marquis de Astorgia y Velada, Spain's ambassador to Rome (preserved in the National Gallery in Parma) and the so-called Rospigliosi Children, which were already in the original collection and are now in the Museum of Rome. Having said this, the artist's catalogue has recently been expanded thanks to the studies of Francesco Petrucci, capturing in his style the influence of the modes of Morandi, Sustermans and Ferdinand Voet with whom he has often been confused.
