Description
Isabelle de Borchgrave (1946-2024), Sun mirror, with radiating frame composed of a mosaic of tiles mounted on metal rods, in shades of yellow and green, diam. 68 cm Belgian artist and sculptor Isabelle de Borchgrave has turned paper into a material of metamorphosis, famous for her life-size trompe-l'œil historical costumes. Her world extends to "total art": textiles, patterns, wallpaper, and even objects and furniture, in a highly decorative and skilful continuity. The same gesture extends to more intimate pieces, accessories and jewellery, where paper becomes adornment, right through to mirrors, approached as surfaces to be inhabited, confirming a body of work at the frontier of art, fashion and the decorative arts. Tiles and missing stems
