Description
[ARMES]. The Psalms of David translated into French according to the Hebrew of the Vulgate. Paris, Hélie Josset, [1689]. In-12 bound in full black morocco with repeating multi-lobed compartments in red and lemon morocco, the whole decorated with a gilt semé of rampant lions and small floral irons, gilt roulette on the edges, gilt roulette int. fleurdelisée, havana morocco endpapers. Binding attributable to Padeloup le Jeune or his workshop. 391 pp. Decorated with an engraved title by Le Pautre with the arms of the Duchesse d'Orléans and an engraved vignette on the head. The repetitive binding work is similar to the bindings referenced by Michon in his book Les Reliures Mosaïquées du XVIIIe siècle. A fine copy. Handwritten bookplates, including that of Claire Veuviere on the engraved title. Very good condition Binding well preserved with minor rubbing to edges and corners Hinge partly cracked at the upper flyleaf. Ff. oxidized Minor soiling in places
