Small in-4° bound in full red morocco, spine ribbed and gilt, boards stamped in the centre with a wreath of foliage and flowers forming an O, gilt fillet to the edges, int. lace, gilt edges. First edition of this key work of the French Renaissance, in which Baïf implements his plan to reform poetry by introducing verses measured in the antique manner. The work is distinguished by its reformed, phonetic spelling, characteristic of the Académie de Poésie et de Musique circle founded by Baïf, and by a typography adapted to metrical scansion.
