London, Paris, Rollin, 1751. 4 vol. in-12 bound in full green morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, stamped in the centre with the arms of Béatrix de Choiseul, duchesse de Gramont, inner dent. gilt (Period binding). Vol.1: [1] f., 333 pp, XI, 4 pp, Vol.2: [1] f., 333 pp, Vol.3: [2] ff, 282 pp, Vol.4: [1] f., 341 pp. Embellished with an engraved title by Charpentier repeated in each volume, a frontispiece and fifteen engraved figures after Gravelot, as well as engraved bands, lettering and endpapers. A fine copy that belonged to Béatrix de Choiseul-Stainville (1730-1794), Duchess de Gramont, sister of Louis XV's famous minister, who ran a renowned salon and was a leading figure in Parisian high society. Her books, richly bound with her coat of arms, bear witness to her refined taste and great attachment to literature.
