Paris, Didot l'aîné, 1787-1788. 12 vol. in-12 bound in full garnet morocco, smooth spine decorated with gilt, double gilt roulette and gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt roulette at the edges, gilt Greek roulette inside, green moire endpapers (Binding of the period). Decorated with an engraved portrait of Homer by St Aubin in frontispiece (vol.1), 2 folding engravings of the shield of Achilles (vol.5), and a portrait of Bitaubé by St Aubin in frontispiece (vol.7). Charming edition with commentary by J. Bitaubé in fairly good condition despite minor wear to bindings and ff. Fairly good condition Binding: Upper jaws of vol.1 partially cracked with brittleness at spine. Spines a little sunned, some slightly soiled/browned Minor damage to some missing headpieces (vol. 2 and 10) Corners a little dented and dull, upper corners of vol. 2 levelled Inside pages: Ff. oxidised, some browned, especially in vol. 11 Minor foxing and spotting in places Minimal soiling to some vols.
