Paris, Denis Thierry and Claude Barbin, 1678-1694. 5 vol. in-12 bound in full wine-leather morocco, spines ribbed and gilt, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, double gilt fillet at the edges, gilt lace inside, gilt edges. Bound in the 19th c. by Canape. Vol.1: [32] ff, 216 pp, [1] f, Vol.2: 232 pp, [2] ff, Vol.3: [2] ff, 220 pp, Vol.4: 221 pp, [1] f, Vol.5: [4] ff, 230 pp (noted 228), [1] f. First collective edition, the only one to have been printed and corrected under the direction of the author (Chemerzin). The last 3 volumes are first editions, the first 2 are reprints of the in-12 edition of 1668. In our copy, volumes 1 and 2 are indeed from the 1678 edition, and not from the 1692 reprint according to Brunet and Tchémerzine. Volume 3 is in the first edition with the verse missing on p.101. Volume 4 is in the second printing with the last verse modified on p.20. Volume 5 is in the first edition with the date 1694 and the Barbin figure on the title. A very fine copy in a binding in perfect condition, partially washed. Very good condition Binding: Very good condition (boards, corners, headpieces, spine, edges,...)
