Small in-12 bound in full red jansenist morocco, double gilt fillet to the edges, gilt lace inside, green morocco endpapers, gilt edges. Later binding signed M. Lortic, [24] ff, 150 pp, [5] ff. decorated with a frontispiece engraved by Picart, wood-engraved head- and foot-pieces. First edition, second state hardback with, at the head of the Réflexions, the finial with the head of an angel printed upside down. Our copy corresponds to the characteristics described by Tchémerzine for this edition, with the exception of a few peculiarities: maxim 274 is here numbered 264 (and not 262), 298 is numbered 248, we read les hommes entreprenans in 301 (and not in 303 as Tchémerzine specifies) and there are cross-references in the Table for maxims 114 and 116. Finally, two maxims are numbered 302. A very fine, well-established copy in a signed binding.
