Paris, Toussainct du Bray, 1627. 2 parts in a large in-8° bound half red morocco, spine ribbed decorated with gilt. Bound in the 19th c. by Victor Gardien. [6] ff, 608 pp, [25] ff, 609-955 pp. [8] ff. decorated with engraved headbands, lettering and endpapers. Reissue of the original published in 1626. The additional quire of 8 ff. (following the poésies de Bois-Robert) between pp. 608 and 609 is missing in our copy. A major collection in the history of French poetry, it brings together around Malherbe the principal representatives of the first classical school and bears witness to the affirmation of a courtly poetry based on the discipline of verse and the purity of language.
