FRANCE (Anatole). 4 first edition books, very well bound: 1) La révolte des anges. Paris, Calmann-Lévy, 1914. In-8° bound in full jansenist aubergine morocco, ribbed spine, double gilt fillet to edges, gilt framing to endpapers, gilt tr., original covers and spine preserved, in slipcase. Binding signed Yseux successor of Thierry-Simier. First edition, ours one of 100 numbered first copies on Japon impérial paper. 2) L'Affaire Crainquebille. Paris, Edouard Pelletan, 1901. In-8° bound in full cherry red morocco, spine ribbed and gilt, triple framing in gilt fillet to covers, double gilt fillet to edges and inside, red moire endpapers, gilt edges, original covers and spine preserved. Binding signed M. Lortig. Decorated with 63 black compositions by Steinlen, including 6 full-page. First edition printed at 400 numbered copies, this one of 343 on vellum from the Papeteries du Marais. A very fine copy. 3) Madame de Luzy. Paris, Perroud, 1902. In-8° bound in full midnight blue morocco, spine ribbed and gilt, rich gilt framing of the boards, gilt roulette on the edges, gilt scrolls on the inside, gilt edges, original covers preserved. Binding signed Canape. Decorated with 10 compositions by A. Lalauze. Limited edition of 350 numbered copies, ours being an unnumbered copy reserved in the name of the illustrator and justified in the publisher's hand. Enriched with the suites in two states of the illustrations. A very fine copy, with minor tears to some plates. Bookplate of Colette Clément [Constance Coline] (1898-1982), a writer close to Léon Blum, Jacques Rigault and Aragon, that of Amélie Blumenfeld-Sciama and that of Hubert Thierry. 4) Le crime de Sylvestre Bonnard. Paris, Calmann-Lévy, 1881. In-8° bound in black half-chagrin, spine ribbed, double fillet stamped on covers (Binding of the period). [2] ff, 324 pp, [1] f. First edition of which no large paper copies were made. Our copy is enriched with an autograph letter signed by Anatole France to the perpetual secretary of the Académie Ringard, dated 6 July 1882. 1) Very good condition 2) Very good condition 3) Very good condition Spine unstained in binding Sepia fading to some plates Minor spotting 4) Minor rubbing to binding Foliage a little oxidised around the edges, some a little browned Minimal and rare soiling Visible signs of printing
