Description
MILNE (A. A.) - SHEPARD (Ernst). Winnie-the-Pooh - "Christopher Robin Books", set of 4 volumes of the adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh in first edition. London, Methuen &, Co, 1924-1928. 4 vol. in-8° bound in publisher's full gilt cloth, gilt head boards, original illustrated dust jackets to each volume.
A fine, emblematic set of first editions of the Winnie-the-Pooh cycle in their original, sought-after dust jackets.
First published in Punch magazine, these texts were an immediate success: the volume was sold out the day it appeared and was soon being quoted, recited and parodied everywhere. The author drew inspiration for the characters in these stories from his son Christopher Robin's cuddly toys. The series ended with The House at Pooh Corner, the last book in the Pooh universe that the author wished to give away.
