RABELAIS (François). Les Horribles et espouvantables faictz et prouesses du très renommé Pantagruel Roy des Dipsodes fils du grand géant Gargantua. Paris, Albert Skira, 1943. In-folio bound in full ivory vellum with applied box decor in monochrome yellow and red decorated with hearts, clubs, spades and squares in glossy brown box and gilt fillets, smooth spine titled vertically in gilt lettering, gilt tr. Binding signed P.L. Martin. A folder with flaps protects this magnificent copy enriched with an autograph letter from the bookbinder asking the owner of the work in 1956 to lend it to him for exhibition at the Salon des Artistes décorateurs at the Grand Palais. Very good condition. Very slight wear to the dust jacket protecting the book. A few tiny bubbles in some of the leather applications, which seem to be due to the glue. Inside pages generally very clean A few spots of oxidation, notably on pp. 64 and 98 A few rare stains in the margins of 2-3 pages and a slight tear at the edge of one page
